2024 Fall Silkies

This fall we are hatching Chocolate, Black, Blue, Mauve, Lemon Cuckoo, Chocolate Paint, Paint, Chocolate split to mottled, and Blue Paint. All pens have a chance of showgirls as well as frizzle, silkie feathers, and smoothie (satin) feathers. Some colors may not be available since, genetically, they have a low chance of occurring.

All pens have been bred for many years to the SOP, or standard of perfection. Even so, this does not mean you are getting the perfect show silkie. There are many variables when it comes to creating the perfect bird and, to say the least, it's almost impossible to add new DNA without problems. We do not breed brother to sister and we add new roosters from other established breeders every year. So every year we might have something interesting happen, like the dreaded leakage, but we try our darndest to weed out the issues before new generations become available. We are currently breeding a pen with a rooster that is known to throw chicks with lacing. This may not be your thing and that's okay. All chicks from that pen will be noted. We don't hide genetics here. Everything you buy is, to the best of our knowledge, labeled correctly. On that note, mistakes happen and we will gladly fix any mishaps that might occur. Luckily that has only ever happened once to us!

The Lemon Cuckoo is a project pen and the breeders can be seen on our Facebook page. From time to time we have a chocolate sex link pen. When those chicks hatch the gender is identified by the color of the chicks down. Chocolate chicks are girls, or pullets, and black chicks are boys, or cockerels. When these chicks are available they will be labeled with the notation SL for sex link.

Chicks that are 8 weeks and younger will require heat, water, and grain, as well as a secure area away from older chickens, predators (which can include your pets), and crazy weather. Sometimes people will buy chicks to break a hen's broodiness. Sometimes this can work, but sometimes it doesn't. I never suggest this because chicks can be as fragile as they are hardy, and there are other safer options available.

All chicks are straight-run, meaning they have a 50% chance of being a boy or a girl. We cannot take back your roosters for biosecurity reasons. Please keep this in mind when buying chicks.
